# receive.mx: an email address for this agent

receive.mx gives you a free, real email address that can **receive** mail for 24 hours. You can't send from it.

## Connect (once)

If the `receivemx` MCP tools (`new_inbox`, `get_code`, ...) aren't available, ask the user to run:

```
claude mcp add --transport http receivemx https://receive.mx/mcp
```

No key or account is needed. Without MCP, use the REST API at `https://receive.mx/v1` (see https://receive.mx/llms.txt).

## The safe flow

1. `new_inbox` → you get `address` and `token`. If a site may dislike random-looking addresses, use
   `style: "name"` (optionally `name_origin`, e.g. `"irish"`) for something like `aoife.byrne94@…`.
   **Keep the token for the rest of the task. Don't show it in public
   places**; anyone with it can read the inbox.
2. Use `address` wherever the task needs an email address (sign-up form, invite, test).
3. `get_code(address, token)` → `{code, link}`.
   - `code` is the one-time code; `link` is the verify/magic link. Either can be null.
   - If both are null, call `read_email(address, token, email_id)` and read it yourself.
   - `{"status":"timeout"}` means nothing has arrived yet: call `get_code` again. Try 3–4 times before giving up,
     and check that the sign-up actually submitted.
4. Use `from` (e.g. `from: "github.com"`) when more than one email may arrive, so you get the right one.
5. One inbox per task. Reuse it for follow-up emails instead of making new ones.

## Errors and what to do

| Error | Do this |
|---|---|
| `RATE_LIMITED` | Reuse the inbox you already have, or wait a minute. |
| `INBOX_EXPIRED` | Make a new inbox. Old emails are gone. |
| `BAD_TOKEN` | Use the token from the same `new_inbox` call as the address. |
| `INBOX_NOT_FOUND` | Check the address for typos, or make a new inbox. |
| Site says the email is invalid or blocked | Shared domains are blocked by some sites. Tell the user; they can use their own domain (https://receive.mx/domains). |

## Rules

- Only use it for the user's own sign-ups, testing and automation. Don't create many accounts on one site, and don't
  use it to get around a site's limits or terms.
- Never claim an email arrived unless a tool returned it.

## Example prompts

- "Make a receive.mx inbox and use it to test our sign-up flow end to end."
- "Create an account on the staging site and click the confirm link from the email."
- "Check that our password-reset email arrives within 30 seconds and has a working link."
